Mosquito Lagoon Sightfishing Guide
Mon Oct 06, 2008
Targeting redfish in the Mosquito Lagoon
for a sight fishing trip will hone your fishing skill sets and set
you apart from other anglers that blind cast or soak baits in hopes
that a fish will strike. Popularized on TV with shows like Addictive
Fishing, Walkers Cay Chronicles or The
Spanish Fly, sight fishing has become a regular way of
fishing in many parts of the world.
Anglers need to wear polarized sunglasses and
a billed hat or sombrero armed only with a light eight pound test
spinning rod or their favorite eight or nine weight fly rod and
they're ready to take on the tailing
redfish of the Mosquito Lagoon with their fishing
guide.
Crystal Clear Water and Polarized Sunglasses
Make Sightfishing Easier for Redfish Anglers
Florida's east coast Lagoons are clear and you can often see the
redfish tailing, foraging, cruising or even just sitting in the
shallow water grass flat areas of the Mosquito Lagoon. If you're
lucky (and many anglers are) you'll see schools of redfish wandering
in the shallow water and get an opportunity to cast offerings to
enormous red drum as they slumber along a sandbar or in a secluded
cove. Just make sure you bring a pair of quality polarized sunglasses
or request Captain Richard to bring a pair of his Costa Del Mars
before setting up the trip.
Weather conditions will dictate whether or not sight fishing will
be employed each day. Windy and extreme overcast days often make
sightfishing difficult or impossible and blind casting is the choice
your guide may suggest. Captain Richard also knows how to turn and
angry windy day of sight fishing into a productive day of live baiting
for redfish too. There's more than one way to skin a fish, but if
your preferred method of fishing is sightfishing
for redfish... the Mosquito Lagoon
is the place for you.
